17th International Festival of Contemporary Dance

Inspirational visit to the Polish city of Poznaň

25.2.2016

The aim of the visit was to get familiar with the production of the Polish Dance Theatre ensemble.

A part of the festival team embarked on a way to Poznan in mid-February to get inspiration and establish new contacts. Within the invitation to the beautiful Polish city, the organizers had the opportunity to see two performances of the Polish Dance Theatre ensemble.

On Saturday, February 20th, their curiosity was excited by the production of Czterdzieści prepared by the well-known Norwegian choreographer Jo Strømgren, whose work the visitors of the 8th festival TANECVALMEZ enjoyed last year. Jo Strømgren, who prepared the performance specially for the Polish ensemble, shows the life of a female heroine over the range of fourty years from 1973 to 2013.

The Sunday performance Desert was inspired by The Little Prince book written by Antoine de Saint-Exupery and excelled particularly in light design of the scene and the amazing music by Szymon Brzoska.

In addition to the performances, other parts of the program included a tour of the historic city center, a visit to the National Museum as well as the premises of the Theatre Ballet School and also a few pleasant encounters. For example with Andrzej Kryczka, who is in charge of the international cooperation in the theatre, the choreographer of the Desert performance Paulina Wycichowska, the Director of the Polish Dance Theatre Ewa Wycichowska or her deputy Katarzyna Aniol.

We will keep you informed on the festival website whether these meeting will lead to further cooperation and you will be able to enjoy performances of the Polish Dance Theatre in one of the future years of the festival TANECVALMEZ.
